so here it is:
This may seem like cheating because it's three pictures but tis really was my tenth picture in my pictures folder.
Story:
These were polaroids I took on the long greyhound bus ride to south dakota. I had so many bags, I should have been charged extra but the employee at the Seattle station was friendly and let it slide. On the bus I had a back pack, a big purse and multiple cameras, one of which was my polaroid land camera.
I thought the hills covered in snow were nice I suppose, who knows what I was thinking trying to take a picture out of a bus window.
That ride was hilarious, we changed bus drivers three times at various stops. Our last bus driver, old whatever his name is, was the best. He was telling jokes and sharing history of the surrounding area.
I sat with a 5 months pregnant, nineteen year old native girl named Tammy, she was wonderful. We swapped stories in between naps and she shared all her food with me. She was from a reservation near rapid city and had been living in Seattle with her boyfriend.
The last photo was taken in Livingston Montana, the bus driver sped so we could get to a coffee shop that he loved. This coffee shack, as it were, was in the middle of nowhere- it makes me wonder if this bus driver and his passengers were her only customers ever to pass by. The coffee was alright, but just so.
I took the last photo because of the mountains, the wires and the fact that the exit sign was pointing back the way I came... perhaps I should have followed it.
The bus trip was hot, everyone was delirious by the time we reached Billings, which is where I got off and my (at the time) soon to be mother-in-law picked me up. We brought Tammy along with us to dinner, before she headed back to the bus station we exchanged numbers.
We attempted to make plans a few times, each time our schedules were incompatible. Now, nearly a year later, when I'm at the mall or some place like target, I keep an eye open for her but so far the bus station was the last I saw her. I hope her and her family are doing well.
